WordBench tool
Remove Extra Spaces & Line Breaks
Clean up double spaces, trailing spaces, and stray line breaks.
About the remove extra spaces & line breaks
The WordBench text cleaner tidies whitespace that pasting and copying leave behind. It collapses runs of double or triple spaces into single spaces, strips trailing spaces from the end of lines, and can flatten stray line breaks so a paragraph reads as one continuous block again.
Text copied out of a PDF, an email, or a formatted document often arrives with hidden extra spaces and hard line breaks in the middle of sentences. Those artifacts break search, mess up imports, and look untidy when the text is reused. This tool removes them without touching the words themselves.
You choose what to clean. Collapse extra spaces on their own to keep your paragraph structure, or also remove line breaks to merge wrapped lines back into flowing text. Both run instantly and locally, so even a long document is cleaned the moment you paste it.
Who uses it
Worked example
Paste a block where a sentence about Initech wrapped across three lines and picked up a few double spaces along the way.
Collapse extra spaces and the double spaces become single ones while the paragraphs stay put. Add remove line breaks and the three wrapped lines join back into one clean sentence, ready to paste anywhere without the odd gaps.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between removing extra spaces and removing line breaks?
Removing extra spaces collapses multiple spaces or tabs into single spaces and trims the ends of lines, while keeping your line and paragraph breaks. Removing line breaks goes further and joins wrapped lines into continuous text, which is what you want after copying from a PDF.
Will it delete the blank lines between paragraphs?
Collapsing spaces preserves your paragraph breaks and trims runs of more than two blank lines down to one gap. It will not merge separate paragraphs unless you also choose to remove line breaks.
Does it change any of the actual words?
No. Only whitespace is affected. Letters, numbers, and punctuation are left exactly as they are.
Can it fix text that pasted with a hard break on every line?
Yes. That is exactly what remove line breaks is for. It rejoins the broken lines into flowing sentences and collapses the resulting extra spaces.
